On November 11, Lao Cai Provincial Federation of Labor held a workshop to discuss solutions to improve care and protection of the rights of union members and workers.

Speaking at the workshop, Vice President of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation Nguyen Thi Thai assessed that through specific programs and actions, trade unions at all levels have accompanied businesses in taking care of workers' rights.

“The trade unions at all levels in Lao Cai province have performed well their function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers. This is demonstrated in a series of activities such as union member welfare, a minimum meal of 18,000 VND, with some units charging up to 22-25,000 VND/meal.

On average, every year, trade unions at all levels support the construction and repair of dozens of houses for workers, more than 100 houses in 2023 alone," emphasized Vice President of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation Nguyen Thi Thai.

According to the Vice President of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation, besides the good results, there are still shortcomings that need to be overcome such as organizing dialogues and signing labor agreements between trade union units and enterprises.

Mr. Hoang Tuan Hai - Chairman of the Lao Cai Province Trade Union of Industry and Trade said: "The role of upper-level and grassroots trade unions in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers is extremely important. However, in reality, the participation of trade unions in negotiating labor agreements is still very limited and unclear."

According to Mr. Hoang Tuan Hai, to improve the effectiveness of caring for workers and promote the role of trade unions, it is necessary to step up propaganda work and raise awareness among employers, especially the meaning of labor agreements.

Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen and improve the quality of grassroots trade unions and establish advisory groups to help disseminate regulations on labor agreement negotiations.

At the workshop, delegates discussed many opinions on the role of trade unions in representing, caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers; practices in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers in some localities...
