Fairy tales in everyday life
In mid-October 2024, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters had the opportunity to accompany the delegation of leaders of the Ninh Binh Provincial Federation of Labor and leaders of the Vietnam Transport Trade Union to visit, encourage and give support money to build a "Union Shelter" house for Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet's family (in Gia Tan commune, Gia Vien district, Ninh Binh province).
In the new house that still smells of paint, Ms. Nguyet emotionally shared: “I am very touched because I never thought that one day all three of us would be able to live in such a spacious new house. I don’t know what else to say, but I would like to thank the unions at all levels for caring for my family. This is the motivation for me to continue to strive in my work and production.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Luyen (residing in Duc Long commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh) - a union member at Sanico Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Gia Van Industrial Park, Gia Vien district) is a particularly difficult case. Her family of 5 (including her husband and 3 children) has lived in a dilapidated house of only 12 square meters for many years. She and her husband are often sick, and their children are still young and in school. The dream of having a solid house to settle down and make a living for her family is a distant dream.
In July 2024, from the support of the "Union Shelter" Fund, along with the support of local authorities and union members and workers in Gia Vien and Nho Quan districts, Ms. Luyen's family was able to build a new, solid and spacious house.
What made everyone present at the donation ceremony for Ms. Luyen's family on the inauguration day of the new house was that Ms. Luyen shared the amount of 45 million VND and asked the company's Trade Union Executive Committee to share it with other people in difficult circumstances.
“I know that besides my family, there are many other union members and workers who are also in difficult circumstances. Therefore, I share a part to support other union members and workers. I hope that the common home of the Trade Union organization will not leave anyone behind. Because giving is forever” - Ms. Luyen shared.
125 "Union Shelters" come to union members and workers
Mr. Tran Kim Long - Vice Chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial Federation of Labor - said that the housing program "Union Shelter" has become one of the social activities with wide-reaching influence, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and affirming the true value of "home" of the Trade Union organization. The program has really brought about practical results, contributing positively to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses and realizing the dream of settling down of workers.
According to Mr. Long, from 2014 to present, trade unions at all levels in Ninh Binh province have supported the repair and construction of 125 "Union Shelters" for union members and workers in difficult circumstances, with a total amount of nearly 5 billion VND.
“In reality, the housing needs of union members and workers in difficult circumstances are still very high, while the support funds from the trade union organization are quite limited. Therefore, it is necessary to have the attention and support of all levels, sectors, business units, philanthropists... to contribute to bringing a stable life to workers,” Mr. Long shared.
In the coming time, trade unions at all levels in Ninh Binh province will continue to mobilize and call on units, businesses, philanthropists... to join hands to support more union members and workers in difficult housing situations so that more and more union members and workers can live in new, spacious and warm houses, contributing to sharing difficulties and adding motivation for them to overcome their circumstances, work with peace of mind, and complete assigned tasks well.
