Directing heat protection for workers
On June 1, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation said that in the past time, in the face of prolonged intense heat waves in the area, potentially affecting the health, safety of labor and productivity of workers, the Provincial Labor Federation has issued an official dispatch on strengthening coordination in caring for working conditions and implementing measures to prevent and combat heat waves for union members and workers.

Specifically, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation directed commune and ward trade unions and grassroots trade unions directly under it to proactively coordinate with employers to review working conditions at enterprises, especially production areas with high temperatures, outdoor workplaces, environments exposed to heat, chemicals, dust, and noise; coordinate with enterprises to strengthen ventilation and cooling systems, arrange reasonable working and rest time.
In addition, the Provincial Labor Federation proposed that units pay attention to organizing practical care activities such as providing drinking water, electrolyte water, and nutritional support for workers; building models of "Trade Union Cooling Points", "Trade Union Cooling Boilers", "Inter-shift Rest Spaces for workers"; and prioritizing care for pregnant female workers, young children, elderly workers and workers working directly outdoors.
Grassroots trade unions strengthen inspection and supervision of working conditions, drinking water quality, food safety and hygiene at collective kitchens, the implementation of regulations on occupational safety and hygiene; promote propaganda on sunstroke prevention and control skills, heat shock, and ensure health for workers.

At the same time, promote the role of the Trade Union Legal Advisory Group and the safety and hygiene network in advising and protecting workers' rights, inspecting the working environment, detecting risks of unsafety and guiding the implementation of measures to prevent and combat heatstroke in the workplace.
Using fire trucks to spray water to prevent heat
Faced with the reality of hot weather in recent days, after receiving instructions from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation, many businesses, especially companies with many workers, have implemented many measures to combat heat for workers.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tron - Chairman of the Trade Union of Annora Vietnam Shoe Co., Ltd. said that recently, in the face of prolonged intense heat, the company's trade union bought lemons, sugar and ice to mix cooling water, bringing it directly to production workshops to serve workers.
In addition, on peak hot days, the company had to use 2 unit fire trucks to spray water onto the factory roof. This contributes to cooling the working space for workers inside the factory" - Mr. Tron shared.

Also according to Mr. Tron, in the coming days, hot weather is forecast to continue to be complicated, so the company's trade union is implementing a plan to distribute yogurt to workers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ty - Chairman of the Trade Union of Rollsport Vietnam Footwear Co., Ltd. said that to prevent heat for workers working at production workshops, the company's trade union has bought clean ice and brought it directly to departments and production lines for workers to use to cool down.

Before the forecast that severe hot weather will continue to occur, the company's trade union has planned to organize a free cold milk tea distribution program for workers" - Mr. Ty said.
Similarly, at Sunjade Vietnam Shoe Co., Ltd., the company's trade union also implemented the distribution of free yogurt to workers during working hours, thereby contributing to supplementing nutrition and reducing fatigue during the production process.
The practical actions above show the concern and companionship of the Thanh Hoa Trade Union organization and businesses for union members and workers in harsh hot days. Thereby, contributing to taking care of health, creating a comfortable working atmosphere, connecting and improving the quality of work at the enterprise.
