Before entering university, Nguyen Thi Oanh - a 2nd year student majoring in Education Management, Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology - once thought she would study in a familiar environment, follow the set roadmap and limit unnecessary risks.
However, after enrolling, the female student decided to participate in practical activities of the faculty. In the first summer, Nguyen Thi Oanh participated in a training trip on STEM education, application of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching for teachers in Hoang Su Phi district (Ha Giang). The project is within the framework of the "Chap Canh" Project implemented by the Faculty of Educational Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology with the companionship of the "Chap Canh" Fund - CC Foundation. After that, she continued to participate in a volunteer project in the digital literacy journey in Pung Luong commune (Lao Cai).
What I receive after each trip is not only new experiences but also confidence to step out of my comfort zone. I meet many people, do jobs that I never thought I could do before and gradually realize that I can adapt to different environments" - Nguyen Thi Oanh shared.
As for Le Thi Tu Trinh - a third-year student majoring in Educational Technology, the greatest value of trips is the opportunity to accumulate professional skills.
Having participated in seven projects with the department, Tu Trinh had the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned about digital lecture design, AI application, educational technology and organizing STEM activities to digital transformation training sessions for teachers.
At first, I thought I was the one who shared knowledge, but the more I participated, the more I realized that I was the one who learned the most" - Tu Trinh said.
The female student said that what she remembers most is not the lectures in class but the image of teachers after training still staying to ask for a small operation or try a new tool with the desire for students to have better lessons.
Through each trip, I have the opportunity to practice teamwork skills, communication, handling situations and adapting to different environments. These are all experiences that I believe will be useful for my future work" - Tu Trinh shared.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tu - lecturer at the Faculty of Educational Science and Technology - said that practical activities help students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have learned, and at the same time practice skills that are difficult to obtain if only studying in the lecture hall.
Being assigned to be in charge of two real-world projects jointly implemented by the Chop Canh Fund and Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan. Through each project, I see that students have clearly changed. From being timid, they gradually become more proactive in their work, confident in communicating, knowing how to listen and coordinate with others" - Dr. Thanh Tu said.
When directly going to localities to guide teachers to apply technology in teaching, students not only practice the knowledge they have learned but also understand more about the difficulties of teachers in places with limited conditions for accessing technology. Exchanging, guiding and handling situations arising during the training process also helps students practice skills in organizing work, communicating and solving problems.
In addition to domestic activities, students also work in groups with students from many countries to jointly solve practical problems in the fields of education, environment and health.
Each trip brings experiences that lecture halls can hardly replace. Students not only learn professional knowledge but also understand more about responsibility to the community, how to work with people and how to bring technology into education in accordance with reality. These are also necessary competencies for students when entering the labor market" - Dr. Thanh Tu assessed.
