On October 17, the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone presented a certificate of merit to former Major Vu Quang Van (former general practitioner of the Quang Dao Region 6 Command Hospital - who retired from September 1) for his timely actions in rescuing drowning people at the beach in Con Dao.
Previously, on the afternoon of October 14, at the Con Son Bay beach area (in front of Hotel S, Con Dao), a female tourist named D.T.H (born in 1967, from Ninh Binh) had just come to visit and unfortunately drowned while swimming in the sea. Discovering the incident, former Major Vu Quang Van quickly swam out to rescue the victim to shore.
He and Dr. Nguyen Ha Thao Vy (working in Con Dao) took timely first aid measures such as artificial respiration, extra- chest congestion, and helped the female tourist wake up. After that, the victim was transferred to the Con Dao Special Forces Medical Center for further monitoring, and his health is now stable.
The authorities recommend that tourists when swimming in the Con Son area should comply with safety regulations, not swim away from the shore, avoid swimming alone and pay attention to water levels and flows to prevent similar incidents.
