Implementing the National Target Program for socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, recently, Tra Linh Commune People's Committee handed over 34,788 Ngoc Linh ginseng seedlings (1-year-old type) to 82 poor households. The total cost of this support is more than 5.4 billion VND, deducted from the National Target Program capital.
The beneficiary households are Xo Dang ethnic minorities, who are in difficult circumstances but have the desire and will to rise out of poverty sustainably. Tra Linh commune has long been known as the "capital" of Ngoc Linh ginseng. With its unique climate and soil conditions at an altitude of over 1,500m, this is the most ideal land for ginseng to grow and have the highest medicinal properties.
According to Tra Linh Commune People's Committee, supporting ginseng seedlings is not only suitable for planting area planning but also helps people take advantage of local advantages to develop forest economy. This is a fundamental solution to soon stabilize life and reduce real poverty in the locality.
Ngoc Linh ginseng is the most precious medicinal herb in Vietnam, bringing extremely high economic value. On the market today, fresh ginseng tubers (type 10 tubers/kg) cost more than 100 million VND; even fresh ginseng leaves cost more than 6 million VND/kg.
