The Standing Committee of the Secretariat requested the Vietnam Farmers' Union to continue to innovate its activities, support farmers in digital transformation, and comprehensive development in the new period.

Speaking to direct at the IX National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union on June 8, Politburo Member, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu emphasized that this Congress takes place in the context of the country entering a new stage of development. The 14th Party Congress has identified the goals to 2030 and vision to 2045: Developing the country quickly and sustainably, building a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilized and happy Vietnam.

The Standing Committee of the Secretariat stated that throughout history, the peasant class has always been a large force, playing a fundamental role, making great contributions in terms of manpower and resources in the resistance wars, as well as in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.

Today, farmers continue to affirm their role as a strategic force in agricultural development, ensuring food security, preserving cultural identity and social stability.

The Party and the State always have a consistent view: Agriculture, farmers, and rural areas have a strategic position, in which farmers are the subject, the center of the development process.

Therefore, this Congress not only evaluates the results of the past term, but more importantly, it identifies directions and breakthrough solutions to realize the Party's policy, improve the material and spiritual life of farmers" - Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said.

In the past term, although the world and domestic situation has had many fluctuations, natural disasters, epidemics, and complex climate change, under the leadership of the Party and State, the Farmers' Association and the farming class nationwide have made efforts to overcome difficulties and achieved many important results.

The patriotic emulation movement has developed deeply and widely; many effective production and business models have emerged; millions of farming households have risen to get rich legitimately, contributing to creating jobs and sustainable poverty reduction. Farmers continue to be the "support" of the economy, contributing to ensuring food security and making Vietnam a leading agricultural exporter.

The Association's work has many innovations; cooperation and production linkage models have been replicated; dialogue between the government and farmers has been strengthened, contributing to consolidating people's trust.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Comrade Tran Cam Tu acknowledged and praised the great achievements and contributions of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and farmers nationwide.

However, the comrade also emphasized that we need to frankly recognize the limitations, which are that the Association's activities are not uniform; support for farmers is still limited; production is still fragmented, linkage is weak; labor productivity is low; digital transformation and technology application are still slow; the situation of "bumper crops, price drops", environmental pollution still occurs.

The Party's resolution clearly defined: developing agriculture in an ecological, circular direction, applying high technology; building modern rural areas; improving added value and competitiveness; building a civilized and comprehensively developed farming class.

To achieve that goal, Politburo Member, Standing Secretary of the Party Central Committee Tran Cam Tu requested the Vietnam Farmers' Union to focus on key tasks:

First, continue to innovate the organization and methods of operation of the Association in the direction of being streamlined, effective, and close to the grassroots level; improve the quality of the staff; overcome formalism and bureaucracy.

Second, take farmers as the center, promote propaganda and mobilization; support agricultural economic development according to the value chain; promote digital transformation, improve product quality, meet market requirements. Third, effectively implement agricultural and rural development programs and projects; support farmers to access insurance, vocational training, and collective economic development.

Fourth, strengthen coordination with organizations in the political system; promote emulation movements; expand dialogue, listen to farmers' opinions. Fifth, participate in building a clean and strong Party and government; well perform the role of supervision and social criticism; prevent and combat corruption and negativity.

The Party, the State and the entire political system will always accompany and create favorable conditions for the Farmers' Association and the farming class to develop comprehensively" - Comrade Tran Cam Tu affirmed.
