The mark of a time of resistance
The Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations was established in 1948, in the context of the fierce resistance war against French colonialism. The birth of the Union is an important milestone, affirming the great role of artists in the struggle for national independence. From the early days of many difficulties, the Union has gathered a team of intellectuals, artists and writers from all over the world, sharing the desire to build a revolutionary art society, attached to the lives of the people and the country.
Throughout history, the Vietnamese artists have always been closely associated with national fate. During the resistance war, many people became true soldiers, holding pens like holding guns, using their lyrics and singing to cheer on patriotism. Many people have fallen in the middle of the battlefield, leaving immortal works and shining examples such as Nam Cao, To Ngoc Van, Tran Dang, Hoang Loc, Tham Tam, Chu Cam Phong, Hoang Viet, Nguyen Thi, Tran Huu Trang, Le Anh Xuan, Duong Thi Xuan Quy... They are proof of the strong relationship between literature and art and the national revolution.
At the meeting with artists and writers on December 30, 2024, General Secretary To Lam emphasized the great role of the artists in the two great resistance wars of the nation: "During the two arduous resistance wars against French colonialism and the American empire, which were extremely heroic and proud, many artists who held guns, pen and strings, and played the flute always stood side by side with all classes of people and the entire nation, ready to sacrifice, bravely sacrifice, and take action on the ideological and cultural front; wrote works and heroic poems to inspire, encourage, and motivate, creating the unmatched strength of the entire nation in the fight, protect, build and develop the country. With verses, lyrics, lyrics, music, drawings, footage, plays...
Familiar authors such as leaders Ho Chi Minh, Song Hong, To Huu, Van Cao, Pham Tuyen, Luu Huu Phuoc, Hoang Van, Do Nhuan, Nguyen Thi, To Ngoc Van, Tuong Vy, Tra Giang... and many other famous artists have spread the revolutionary spirit to all regions of the Fatherland, praised the bravery and encouraged the fighting spirit of our army and people on the battlefield, becoming a great source of encouragement on all fronts, leaving a deep impression on the people's hearts and a valuable cultural heritage, helping future generations better understand the value of independence, freedom and the sacrifice of their ancestors".
According to the General Secretary, in the campaigns, despite hardship and difficulties, artists still take action, are present at battlefields and battles, and have many meaningful on-site compositions, expressing optimism and confidence in the victory of the Party, people, army and soldiers. The team of artists and writers together with the entire people and army "tried the whole Truong Son to save the country", made great victories "famous in five continents, shaking the whole world", collected the river in one go, to make the river of our ancestors "Never as beautiful as today" on April 30, 1975.
The words of the General Secretary are an affirmation of the great significance of revolutionary art, both as spiritual strength and a "sharpening weapon" in the struggle for independence and freedom for the Fatherland.

Continuing the mission of creativity, construction and integration
After the war, entering the peacetime, the Vietnamese artists continued to promote revolutionary traditions, arousing creativity to serve the cause of national construction. Many works have profound content, truly reflecting social life, arousing humanity and the desire to rise up of the Vietnamese people in the integration period.
The topics on preserving cultural heritage and building modern Vietnamese people, affirming the sovereignty of the sea and islands are vividly reflected through art forms such as literature, music, painting, stage and cinema. It is from that persistent creativity that Vietnamese literature and art have been contributing to fostering national cultural values, creating the unique identity of Vietnam in the era of globalization.
General Secretary To Lam once emphasized the great role of the artists in the new development period of the country: "In the process of building and developing the country, spreading throughout the Fatherland as blood cells, the artists continue to rely on sacrifice and hardship to reflect and affirm the colorful vitality of all regions, all professions, creating works imbued with cultural and humanistic values, adding the vitality of aesthetics and artistics, creating spiritual resources for the country on the path to prosperity and beauty, especially the beauty of the soul of Vietnam.
We are moved and proud of the works that crystallize the talent, enthusiasm, responsibility, dedication and commitment of generations of artists and writers; works that encourage and motivate the entire people and army, marking the unforgettable years of the country, strongly expressing the stature of Lac Nec Hong, nurturing national pride, pride in the glorious Party and Fatherland; works that promote and commend new factors, examples of selfless labor, production and fighting.
We honor the team of artists - those who wholeheartedly follow the Party's ideals, wholeheartedly serve the Fatherland, serve the people, unite to fight against the plot of " peaceful development", voluntarily become soldiers on the cultural front, volunteer to live and create in the places at the head of the Fatherland, the most arduous and fierce fronts, join the people in the blood and blood, bathe in challenges, consider them as aspiration, reason for life, and happiness of their lives".
