Having a new house, more motivation to rise up
In a newly completed house in Phong Hiep commune, Ca Mau province, Ms. Nguyen Thi A was moved when her family had a stable place to live after many difficult years.
Ms. A's family is near-poor, has no production land, her husband works as a hired crab weigher, she works as a hired laborer, and her 15-year-old child has intellectual disabilities. Previously, the whole family lived in a degraded temporary house but could not repair it.

From the support of 60 million VND of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, her family built a new house to ensure shelter from rain and sun.
Having a new house, my husband and I are more assured to go to work. The family has also applied for poverty reduction to give support to other difficult households," Ms. A shared.
In Khanh Hai commune, Ms. Nguyen My Hanh is also still moved when moving into a new house to replace the old house that was degraded before.
The elderly couple has no children, and their lives depend on daily wages to take care of their husband who has had heart disease for many years. Every time it rains heavily, the old house leaks in many places, making life, which was already difficult, even more difficult.

When I heard about housing support, I was so happy that I couldn't sleep. Now that I have a stable house to live in, my husband and I are much more reassured," Ms. Hanh said.
The joy of having a new house also comes to many other difficult households in the province. In Dinh Thanh commune, Ms. Do Thi Van said that the old house used to leak in many places, and in the rainy season, the whole family always lived in anxiety.
On the day of receiving the house handover, my husband and I were very happy. Having a stable place to live, we can feel secure in working and striving to rise up," Ms. Van expressed.
Mr. Vo Van Dai (resident of Quach Pham commune) said that his family's old house is seriously degraded but has not had the conditions to repair it for many years.
Every time it rains heavily, I have to take buckets and basins to collect water. When there is a storm, I am afraid the house will collapse. Now that we are supported to build a new house, the family is more assured to worry about doing business," Mr. Dai said.
According to local authorities, the most meaningful thing from the program is not only housing support but also helping many households have more faith to stabilize their lives and gradually rise out of poverty.
Thousands of households settle down
Ca Mau province has completed repairing and building more than 9,670 houses for people with meritorious services to the revolution, relatives of martyrs, poor and near-poor households and ethnic minority households.
The total implementation cost is more than 471 billion VND; of which over 7,000 houses are newly built, and the rest are repaired and upgraded. The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses alone has 4,400 houses eligible for support; of which 3,463 houses are newly built and 937 houses are repaired.
The level of support for new construction is 60 million VND/unit, repair is 30 million VND/unit. The funding is mobilized from the State budget, the gratitude fund, the fund for the poor and other legal socialized sources.

The houses are all built according to the "3 solid" standards including solid foundations, solid walls and solid roofs, suitable for the living conditions of local people.
To make the program effective, Ca Mau province has directed localities to carefully review each target group, determine priorities and develop specific implementation roadmaps.
For households that do not have residential land, the locality mobilizes relatives to lend land for a long time, arranges public land funds or arranges them in existing residential areas so that people can receive stable housing support.
Not stopping at removing temporary houses, the province also associated with supporting the construction of hygienic toilets for more than 3,100 households, with a total budget of more than 15.6 billion VND from socialization sources.
Ms. Ngo Thi Nhu Y - Vice Chairwoman of Phong Hiep Commune People's Committee - said that the program implementation process is always carried out publicly, to the right people and in accordance with the actual conditions of each household. "The program not only provides material support but also has great spiritual significance, helping people have more motivation to work and produce," Ms. Y shared.
