On the morning of August 1, the section of National Highway 40B through Tu Mo Rong commune suddenly subsided, about 20 m long, 0.6 to 1 m deep. A 1-meter-division sinkhole appeared nearby, more than 1.2 m deep. The incident forced a low-chassis car to turn around, only motorbikes and high-chassis cars could try to get through.

Mr. Tran Quoc Huy - Chairman of Tu Mo Rong Commune People's Committee - said that this road section has had landslides before due to rain that has lasted for about 10 days. "The widespread subsidence is threatening the safety of road users, especially at night," said Mr. Huy, adding that the commune had coordinated to put up warning signs at the scene.
The locality also recommended that the road management unit urgently repair it. Dak Binh Traffic Management, Repair and Construction Company Limited has mobilized human resources and equipment to initially handle the landslide site.
According to the authorities, the subsided area has a groundwater flowing through it. If the heavy rain continues, the risk of the road being completely cut off is very high. The commune government has proposed installing a large drainage system to thoroughly handle this situation.
A representative of Dak Binh Traffic Management, Repair and Construction Company Limited said that the subsidence location on National Highway 40B is located on a large slide, and similar incidents have occurred in previous years. The unit is continuing to handle the subsidence points, ensuring smooth traffic, while reserveing soil, rock, sand... on site for quick handling in case of emergency.
National Highway 40B is 209 km long, connecting from Tu Mo Rong and Mang Ri communes (Quang Ngai province) to Tam Ky, Phu Ninh, Tien Phuoc, Bac Tra My, Nam Tra My localities and connecting to Da Nang city. This is a vital traffic route for the mountainous areas of the western part of Quang Ngai and Da Nang City, playing an important role in connecting the region and transporting goods.
