On June 1, at 30/10 Square, Ha Long City, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will coordinate with the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province and related units to organize an important Mid-Action Ceremony in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and launch the Environmental Action Month 2025.
This year's event has the global theme "Beat Plastic Pollution", launched by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Speaking at the Met Rising Ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh said that the work of reducing plastic waste still faces many challenges. Although a legal corridor has been formed, the implementation stage is still limited. Waste classification at source is not synchronous, many businesses are not willing to invest in technology due to high costs, while the habit of using single-use plastic is still popular in the community.
According to the Deputy Minister, plastic pollution is not only an environmental problem, but also a test of Vietnam's adaptation in the transition to a circular economy and a knowledge economy. High technology, innovation and connectivity between the State, businesses and people are the keys to Vietnam turning challenges into sustainable development drivers.
We call on all levels of government, the business community, and every citizen to take action together. Don't be indifferent to plastic pollution. Let's proactively create a green lifestyle for today's environment and for a sustainable future," Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh emphasized.
The rally in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and Environmental Action Month 2025 are therefore not only a call, but a time to turn awareness into specific actions from each family, each community, each organization towards a cleaner, greener Vietnam and living more in harmony with nature.
In order to promote the extensive participation of all classes of society, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has officially launched the campaign "Joining hands to reduce plastic waste - Spreading a green lifestyle", with 6 key contents: Organizing " One-time-use plastic-free day" at offices, schools, supermarkets, markets... Launching a movement to classify waste at source, collect and recycle plastic waste in households, agencies, and enterprises; Propagating the model of ecological agriculture, circular agriculture, limiting the use of plastic in production.
Strengthen communication, especially digital communication to raise public awareness, encourage practical actions; Support research and application of plastic waste recycling technology, production of environmentally friendly alternative materials; Timely reward outstanding individuals, organizations and businesses in the work of preventing plastic pollution.
