Consumers and retailers cautious
Recently, a person who had worked at the meat distribution store of C.P Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company in My Xuyen district (Soc Trang province) denounced the store and some people who committed acts of bringing unused meat to the market. Before the information causing concerns about pork products of C.P Vietnam Company, some food stores and retail systems imported products of C.P Vietnam Company have announced the suspension of business products of this brand.
At a supermarket on Hoa Hung Street (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City), an employee said that he had temporarily stopped importing and selling pork from CP Vietnam Company. Some other food stores in Go Vap district, Thu Duc city have also stopped importing goods from CP Vietnam Company, and have switched to other suppliers.
"We are working with supplier C.P. When there is verification information and official results, we will notify you again. This is to ensure the safety of consumers" - said an employee of a clean food store on Dien Bien Phu Street (Binh Thanh District).
Meanwhile, Bach Hoa Xanh, Co.opmart, GO!... pork stores of CP Company are still being sold normally. However, the number of customers buying products of this unit has decreased slightly.
Tightening control of pork products on the market
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Khanh Phong Lan - Director of the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City, if there are violations, they will certainly be handled. However, according to the information the unit has, meat items, especially pork of CP, are all inspected and controlled very closely before being launched on the market.
In fact, for the general pork market in Ho Chi Minh City, for a long time, the authorities have discovered the phenomenon of meat of unknown origin being mixed on some transported vehicles. This happens because not all pigs are slaughtered at industrial facilities in the city. Some cases of pigs are brought to neighboring provinces for slaughter at lower costs, and there is still manual slaughter. This is a gap that can cause substandard meat to be mixed into mainstream products.
"Given this situation, the authorities maintain 24/7 supervision to promptly detect and handle it. When we discovered violations, we would confiscate and destroy them on the spot. As for CP's products, we have reviewed and counted in the past time that there have been almost no violations. All products put on the market have clear traceability and have been fully quarantined by the veterinary agency, said Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan.
On the Ho Chi Minh City side, the authorities affirmed that they will continue to closely monitor the pork supply chain, in order to protect the rights and health of the community.
