According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, currently, the weather in the North and Central regions continues to be affected by cold air masses.
The Northern and North Central regions on December 28th are forecast to have rain in some places, early morning fog in some places; especially the Northern region will be sunny in the afternoon. Cold weather, severe cold in mountainous areas, severe cold in some places; from the night of December 28th to December 31st, cold weather at night and in the morning.
From the night of January 1, 2026, due to the impact of increased cold air, the weather in the North will change. Forecast for the night of January 1, 2026 and day of January 2, 2026, the plains and coastal areas of the North and North Central regions will have rain, scattered light rain. From the night of January 1, 2026, the weather will turn cold, mountainous areas will have places with severe cold.
The area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa on December 28, 2025 to January 1, 2026, is forecast to have rain in some places. From about January 2, 2026, the above provinces and cities will begin to be affected by cold air, forecast to have rain and scattered showers.
Regarding the rain trend in the coming month, the total rainfall nationwide is generally lower than the multi-year average by 5 - 15mm. Especially in the provinces from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, coastal provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Northern Khanh Hoa, the total rainfall is lower than the multi-year average by 15 - 40mm, in some places lower.
Previously, the meteorological agency forecast that from December 21, 2025 to January 21, 2026, the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and the north of Nghe An will have a common total rainfall of 15 - 30mm. The southern region of Nghe An - Ha Tinh will have a total rainfall of 40 - 80mm. The area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, the coast of Quang Ngai province to Dak Lak and the north of Khanh Hoa will have a total rainfall of 60 - 130mm (some places over 130mm). The Southern region will have a total rainfall of 20 - 40mm; the remaining areas will have a common total rainfall of 5 - 15mm.
Provinces and cities from Quang Tri to Da Nang, the east of Quang Ngai province to Gia Lai are likely to experience widespread rainfalls from now until January 2026.
Across the country, there is still a possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
