The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has forecast the seasonal weather trend (from January - June 2026).
Regarding the temperature trend, from January to March 2026, the average temperature nationwide is generally close to the multi-year average, especially in the Northern region in January 2026, it is generally 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher than the multi-year average of the same period.
From April to June 2026, the temperature nationwide is generally close to the multi-year average of the same period.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the first 3 months of 2026, cold air is likely to operate weaker than the average of many years.

However, cold air during the main winter period still causes severe cold spells. It is necessary to be wary of the possibility of severe cold spells causing the lowest temperature to drop sharply, especially in the northern mountainous areas and possibly accompanied by frost and freezing," Mr. Hoa advised.
The Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Department said that along with the activity of the northeast monsoon, from about the second half of February and March 2026, the phenomenon of light rain and drizzle is likely to appear more in provinces/cities in the North (equivalent to the multi-year average).
From April 2026, cold air continues to be able to operate, but tends to gradually decrease in intensity and frequency.
During the dry season months at the beginning of 2026, in the Central Highlands and Southern regions, there is a possibility of more days/periods of unseasonal rain than in previous years.
Regarding hot weather, in the Southern region, hot weather is likely to appear from about the end of February - early March 2026 in the Southeast region. After that, hot weather tends to increase intensity and gradually expand to the Mekong Delta region (equivalent to the multi-year average). In the Northwest region, local hot weather may appear from March 2026.
The Northwest region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue are likely to experience hot weather from around April 2026, then gradually expand to the entire North and Central regions from the end of April 2026. The Southern region has widespread hot weather in April 2026, then gradually decreases in intensity.
The possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind is gradually increasing across the country, especially during the transitional season, around April and May 2026" - Mr. Hoa said about the rain trend.
The meteorological agency especially emphasized that in the context of climate change, weather, and climate is increasingly complex with many dangerous and extreme forms such as heavy rain in a short time, flash floods, landslides... Therefore, it is proposed to regularly update and integrate meteorological and hydrological forecasting and warning information in short-term bulletins of 1-3 days, to promptly adjust production plans, appropriate response plans, especially appropriate reservoir operation plans, ensuring safety of works and downstream areas, along with ensuring safety for production activities and people's livelihoods.
