In August 2025, most storms in the East Sea will affect the weather on land. Specifically, in August, there were 2 storms and 2 tropical depressions; of which 2 storms and 1 tropical depression in mid-August directly affected our mainland. The activities of storms and tropical depressions are closely related to rainfall.
Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam - Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting provided comments on the weather trend forecast for September.
Sir, what is the forecast for storms and tropical depressions in September?
- In September, the most notable weather pattern is still storms/tropical depressions. Forecasts of storms and tropical depressions operating in the East Sea and affecting our country are likely to be at a level similar to the average of many years. It is forecasted that there will be about 2 - 4 storms in the East Sea and 1 - 2 of them will make landfall. Note that there will still be storms and tropical depressions appearing right in the East Sea area.

With the increase in storm and tropical depression activity, what is the forecast for heavy rain in the regions in September, sir?
- According to the law, the tropical convergence zone at this time often passes through the North Central region, so storms when entering Vietnam will often cause rain in the North Central and Northern regions.
The Northern Delta regions and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Gia Lai have total rainfall generally 10 - 25% higher than the average of many years, the remaining areas have total rainfall approximately the same as the average of many years in the same period.
The Northern Delta and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai are likely to experience some widespread heavy rains. Other places across the country during the month will have showers and thunderstorms for many days; some days may have moderate to heavy rain.
On a national scale, there is a continued possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
Heavy rain tends to appear more often in September, so is there a forecast of hot weather or not, sir?
- Hot weather is likely to appear locally in the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the South Central Coast, concentrated in the first half of September.
Sincerely thank you!
In August, many places will have more rain than historical values
