VNA reported that the US Trade Representative Office (USTR) issued a notice on April 24 about the phone call between US Trade Representative General Jami L. Greer and Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.
The announcement said that US Trade Representative General Jamieson L. Greer had an effective online meeting with Vietnamese Industry and Trade Minister Nguyen Hong Dien on April 23 to discuss bilateral trade relations between the US and Vietnam.
Chief Representative Greer discussed the next steps between the USTR and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam after the phone call between President Donald Trump and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam on April 4.
The two sides agreed on the importance of making rapid progress towards balanced and reciprocal trade relations between the US and Vietnam.
The Ministers have directed the technical groups of the two sides to soon conduct technical discussions in the coming days to discuss efforts to expand market access and handle unfair trade practices.
Earlier, at the phone call on April 23, Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government negotiation team Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that Vietnam attached importance to developing comprehensive strategic partnerships with the United States, the desire to promote economic -trade relations towards balance, stability, sustainability and efficiency with the United States; The ministries and branches of Vietnam are willing to negotiate aesthetic issues of interest, together with the United States to find reasonable solutions for the two parties to benefit, in the spirit of harmonious benefits, shared risks.

For his part, US Trade Representative General Jamieson L. Greer highly appreciated the two countries' agreement to negotiate a bilateral trade agreement; expressed confidence that the two sides will soon reach appropriate solutions to promote stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relations.
At the end of the meeting, the two Heads of the negotiating delegations also agreed to maintain regular exchanges at the negotiating Heads and technical levels to speed up the negotiation process on each specific issue.
