According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and this morning (May 23), the Northwest region, the provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen had moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain.
Rainfall from 7pm on May 22 to 8am on May 23 was over 150mm in some places such as: Xuan Minh (Ha Giang) 160.8mm, Phuc Yen (Tuyen Quang): 255.6mm, Tan Phuong (Yen Bai) 158.4mm, Muong Te (Lai Chau) 204.8mm
The provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Northeast and the Northern Delta from May 23 to May 24 are forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain.
Rainfall in the provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, and the Northeast will generally be 60 - 130mm, locally over 220mm.
The Northern Delta region will have total rainfall of 40 - 70mm, locally over 150mm.
The Northwest region from May 23 to the morning of May 24 is forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 40 - 70mm, locally over 150mm.
The North Central region from the evening of May 23 to the night of May 24 is forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 40 - 100mm, locally over 180mm.
The meteorological agency warns of the risk of local heavy rain (rainfall greater than 120mm within 3 hours).
In the Central Highlands and the South in the afternoon and evening of May 23, it is forecasted to have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain to very heavy rain with rainfall from 20 - 40mm, locally over 70mm.
The area from Khanh Hoa to Binh Thuan will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening of May 23, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10 - 30mm, locally over 50mm
During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. The warning level of natural disaster risk due to heavy rain is level 1. Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes.
The meteorological agency forecasts that from the night of May 24, heavy rain in the Northern region will tend to decrease. From May 25, heavy rain in the North Central region will gradually decrease.
