According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and this morning (October 9), Lam Dong, the South Central Coast and the South had scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy rain. Rainfall from 7pm on October 8 to 8am on October 9 was over 70mm in some places, such as at Pho Khanh (Quang Ngai) 102.2mm, Tan Minh station (Lam Dong) 96.4mm, Ben Soi station (Tay Ninh) 78.2mm.
The area from South Quang Tri to Hue city, the coastal areas of the South Central and Southern regions on the day and night of October 9 is forecast to have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, with common rainfall from 15 - 40mm, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 80mm. In the Southern region, rain will be concentrated in the afternoon and at night.
In the Central Highlands in the afternoon and night of October 9, there will be showers and scattered thunderstorms with rainfall from 10 - 30mm, locally heavy rain over 60mm.
Warning of the risk of heavy rain over 60mm within 3 hours. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains can cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
Regarding the high tide situation in the South, currently (October 9), the eastern coast of the South is experiencing high tidal water levels. The highest water level observed at Vung Tau station was 4.05m at 2:15 a.m. on October 9.
It is forecasted that from the evening of October 9 to October 10, the coastal area from Ho Chi Minh City to Ca Mau will experience a high tide with the water level at Vung Tau station reaching about 4.10 - 4.15m. The time of strong water is around 16 - 18 hours.
In the next 24 to 48 hours, the water level in the eastern coast of the South is forecast to gradually decrease. The highest water level at Vung Tau station is forecast to be about 4 - 4.1m.
Low-lying coastal areas, riverbanks, and areas outside the eastern dykes of the South are likely to be flooded in the late afternoon. This high tide ends on October 11.
