The meteorological agency said that today and tonight, September 30, the North is forecast to have some places with very heavy rain with rainfall of over 150mm.

According to data from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and this morning (September 30), the Northern region had rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain.

Rainfall from 7pm on September 29 to 8am on September 30 was over 100mm in some places such as: Ta Tong (Lai Chau) 101.6mm, Bac Quang (Ha Giang) 313mm, Minh Lap (Thai Nguyen) 112.1mm...

The meteorological agency has forecast heavy rain in the next 24 to 48 hours.

In the mountainous and midland areas of the North on the day and night of September 30, it is forecasted to have moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 30 - 70mm, locally over 150mm.

Other places in the North, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An on the day and night of September 30, are forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with rainfall of 20 - 50mm, locally over 100mm. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (over 100mm/6 hours).

From October 1, heavy rains decreased rapidly in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa.

Thunderstorms are likely to brings tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. The warning level for natural disaster risks due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail is level 1.

Localized heavy rains of high intensity can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

Accordingly, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that soil moisture models in Lai Chau and Dien Bien showed that some areas in the above provinces were nearly saturated (over 85%) or reached a saturated state.

From now until 12 noon on September 30, the above provinces will continue to have rain with average amounts of 20 - 40mm, in some places over 80mm.

In the next 3 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in the above provinces, especially in Tan Uyen, Muong Te, Sin Ho districts in Lai Chau and Muong Ang, Muong Cha, Tua Chua, Tuan Giao districts in Dien Bien.
