According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, Department of Weather Forecast, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the North is about to record a wider rain spell. Total rainfall from the evening of July 23 to July 25 in the Northern region is commonly 70 - 150mm, locally over 300mm.
The meteorological agency has also made detailed forecasts of rain developments.
From the evening of July 23 to the night of July 24, the Northern region will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 40 - 120mm, locally very heavy rain over 250mm.
In which, the focus of rain is in the midland and mountainous areas of the Northern region, the delta region has lower rainfall. The mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region and Quang Ninh have rainfall from 60 - 120mm, locally over 250mm, the delta of the Northern region rainfall 40 - 80mm, locally over 150mm" - Ms. Hue added.
In the late afternoon and night of July 24, Thanh Hoa area will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 25 - 50mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.
Ms. Hue warned that in thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Warning level of natural disaster risk due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail is level 1.
People also need to be especially wary of the risk of extreme rain intensity with rainfall greater than 100mm in 3 hours" - Ms. Hue said.
On July 25, the Northern region and Thanh Hoa will have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with common rainfall of 10 - 30mm, locally very heavy rain over 80mm.
The Central Highlands and Southern regions will have rain, moderate rain with rainfall of 20 - 50mm, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 100mm.
Heavy rain and localized heavy rain are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes.
Regarding the rain trend in the next 1 month, the total rainfall nationwide is generally approximately equal to the multi-year average; especially in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, it is generally 5 - 15% higher than the multi-year average of the same period.
