Along Van Cao street (Ngoc Ha ward, Hanoi City), two-wheeled electric vehicles collecting garbage are gradually replacing rudimentary manual pushcarts, becoming "companiers" to support environmental workers to reduce hardship between long shifts.
Compact and flexible design helps this vehicle easily move through deep alleys and narrow alleys. Each collection time currently only takes about 20 minutes, but the efficiency is clearly improved, limiting emissions into the environment.
Ms. Tran Thi Huong - a worker at Hanoi Urban Environment Co., Ltd. (Urenco), Ngoc Ha Branch - said that in the past, garbage collection mainly relied on human strength, so the work was quite hard, especially on hot or rainy days.

Van Cao, Doi Can, Lieu Giai or Hoang Hoa Tham routes have the characteristic of many small alleys. Using handcarts during work makes moving quite heavy. Since having electric vehicles, my work has become more convenient and productive, especially during the day shift," Ms. Huong shared.
Although there are still some inconveniences due to the small capacity of the trash can, and having to return to the collection point many times during the working shift, most environmental workers assess that two-wheeled electric vehicles have significantly reduced labor capacity compared to hand-pulled vehicles before.
Ms. Mai Lan - a worker at Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Liability Company, Hoan Kiem Branch - said that in the early days, many workers, especially older workers, were still unfamiliar with how to operate, charge and maintain vehicles. However, after a period of use, everyone gradually adapted and clearly felt the effectiveness that the new vehicle brought.
“Initially, we were also worried because we were not used to using electric vehicles, but after using them proficiently, we moved faster and saved more effort than before,” Ms. Lan shared.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung - Deputy Director of Hanoi Urban Environment Co., Ltd., Ba Dinh Branch, putting two-wheeled electric vehicles into use helps reduce manual labor and increase the efficiency of maintaining daytime environmental sanitation on streets.
Two-wheeled electric vehicles are highly flexible, helping workers move faster, increase cleaning frequency and promptly handle arising issues on the assigned route," Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung said.
In addition to two-wheeled electric vehicles, Urenco also put into operation waste collection and transport vehicles that meet Euro 5 emission standards.
In which, garbage compactors from 4.7 to 10 tons and Hooklift vehicles with large tonnage are equipped with sealed compression technology, helping to increase the volume of garbage collected each trip, reducing the number of vehicles circulating on the road.
Modernizing waste collection and transportation vehicles helps improve the efficiency of urban cleaning, while reducing traffic congestion, noise and emissions in the process of treating domestic waste in the Capital.
