Hanoi mobilizes all efforts to ensure clean and beautiful streets

Hanoi is synchronously and drastically implementing many solutions to ensure environmental sanitation on the occasion of National Day, September 2.

To serve the gathering, preliminary approval and especially the general approval ceremony for parades and parades, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment and Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited (Urenco) have developed and implemented a plan to improve environmental sanitation in the entire area.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Deputy General Director of Urenco, since August 15, the general cleaning work has been carried out regularly and continuously by the units until September 5. Thousands of cleaning workers were deployed to be on duty and collect garbage early before the road closure, ensuring the streets were airy and clean. Particularly on key streets such as Tran Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Trinh Hoai Duc, Kim Ma, Hang Khay..., the environmental workers maintain 4 daily motorized collection trips combined with manual, 2 trips of sweep trucks and 2 trips of specialized road washing trucks.

In addition, the Hanoi Youth Union mobilized 6,300 union members and youth volunteers to coordinate with Urenco to collect trash, distribute trash bags, and propagate to remind people to maintain public hygiene. In particular, to support the collection work, the units have prepared 800 trash bag hangers and distributed 25,000 plastic bags to volunteer forces and people. After collection, Urenco transported the waste on the same day, not leaving it behind, causing loss of aesthetics. In fact, after the first training session on August 21, the central wards of Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Ba Dinh... generated about 30 tons of garbage, but all were carefully handled before 4am on August 22.

However, during the implementation process, environmental sanitation work also encountered many difficulties such as a long road ban; many environmental workers, especially equipment operators, had to work at high intensity, long shifts causing fatigue; the number of people and tourists gathering in the central area was larger than expected, leading to illegal garbage discharge, putting pressure on the collection stage.

After the first gathering evening, in some crowded areas such as Nguyen Thai Hoc, Kim Ma, Bac Co flower garden, Tran Nhan Tong... a small number of people were recorded as littering in the wrong place and some socialized facilities (residents, shops, offices) had not opened to serve people; specialized vehicles such as pumps, water supply vehicles encountered difficulties due to not being issued traffic badges during the road closure period...

To resolve the above problems, on August 22, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and Urenco Company held an urgent meeting to propose optimal solutions for the general inspection days and the September 2 parade. Urenco Deputy General Director Nguyen Thanh Son said that the city agreed to adjust and add more mobile toilet facilities in the Le Truc - Hung Vuong area, Hang Day Stadium, Mai Xuan Thuong flower garden, Tran Nhan Tong walking street... At the same time, continue to mobilize agencies, organizations, and households to open free toilet doors, contributing to sharing the pressure with the general system.

Along with that, the city has strengthened propaganda and mobilization work to mobilize people and tourists to attend the parade to keep hygienic, not to litter, reduce the use of disposable plastic bags, contributing to building the image of the capital "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - civilized".

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai - Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, environmental sanitation to serve the rehearsal ceremony and the official holiday on September 2 is an important political task. In recent days, units have mobilized maximum human resources and means to ensure that the streets are always clean, safe, and create a good impression in the eyes of people and international friends. This is also an opportunity to affirm the motto of building the Capital "Bright - green - clean - beautiful - civilized".

It is expected that from now until September 2, the number of visitors and people gathered in the city center will continue to increase, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment requires units to continue to focus on human resources and means for environmental sanitation.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment also calls on people and tourists to comply with environmental sanitation in public places and tourist attractions: "Every small action, from dumping garbage in the right place to reminding relatives and friends, contributes to creating an image of civilized and elegant Hanoi, worthy of being the heart of the whole country", Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai emphasized.
