Hundreds of communes and wards are at risk of landslides and flash floods due to the impact of Storm No. 3 Wipha

Khánh Linh |

A series of localities have been warned of the risk of flash floods and landslides due to the impact of Storm No. 3 Wipha.

Due to the influence of the storm's circulation, from the evening of July 22 to the morning of July 23, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, the south of Phu Tho and Son La will have very heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-100mm, some places over 200mm. Other places in the North and Ha Tinh will have common rain of 20-40mm, locally over 100mm.

The intensity of heavy rain can exceed 150mm in 3 hours, causing the risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas to increase.

Soil moisture models show that many areas in Son La, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh are close to or have reached a state of saturatation (over 85%), which is very susceptible to landslides.
