The Green Hau Giang Project has been implemented for 3 years. The Project has made an important contribution to environmental protection, helping localities achieve the criteria of new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas; according to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Hau Giang province, up to now, about 96.04% of households have access; 434 garbage collection teams have been established and put into operation, reaching 82.67% of the total number of hamlets and areas.
The rate of households classifying domestic solid waste reached 92.13%, of which 93.60% in urban areas and 91.53% in rural areas.
The rate of solid waste generated in households that is collected, centrally treated or self-treated to meet environmental protection requirements is 91.43%, of which 92.21% in urban areas and 91.12% in rural areas...
Although the Project has brought about practical results, there are still some localities that have not ensured environmental hygiene and have not been regularly collected by functional units, leaving behind waste that causes environmental pollution. There are still households dumping garbage and dead animals into the environment and many spontaneous gathering points for domestic solid waste have arisen.
Regarding the above issue, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that although there are still many difficulties in implementation, the results of the Green Hau Giang Project basically meet the requirements.
The Standing Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee also said that the biggest limitation at present is people's awareness in implementation. Therefore, associations and organizations need to increase propaganda activities in many forms to raise people's awareness in environmental protection.
The Standing Vice Chairman of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee requested districts, towns and cities to review garbage collection equipment and garbage collection points to propose locations for communes.
