Lao Dong Newspaper has had many reflections on the pollution situation at the Song Cong domestic waste collection and landfill, also known as Tan My landfill in Bach Quang and Ba Xuyen wards, Thai Nguyen province.
Hundreds of thousands of tons of domestic waste from the old Song Cong city transferred by Song Cong Urban Works and Environment Joint Stock Company for collection and careless burial for many years have now been piled up like mountains.
This has caused a situation where when it's sunny, the stench is strong, when it rains, water leaks from the landfill and spills into the fields, leaving painful consequences for the environment as well as the lives of local people.

On April 24, in an exchange with reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment (NNMT) of Thai Nguyen province said that functional agencies have conducted inspections and are handling environmental issues at Tan My landfill.
Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is reviewing all dossiers on land allocation and landfill allocation between relevant units to have a plan to close. Sectors will also hold meetings to determine the cost and order of closing the landfill," Mr. Minh informed.
Also according to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thai Nguyen province, this time functional agencies will drastically implement the closure of Tan My landfill, not allowing environmental pollution to occur, affecting people's lives and the local investment attraction work.
It must be resolved thoroughly, this is still a painful issue that not only affects the living environment of people but also the investment attraction environment into the province. Do not let this issue affect socio-economic development," Mr. Minh said.
Previously, immediately after the press's reflection, on April 20, the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee issued a document assigning the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize inspections and promptly prevent the risk of environmental pollution in the area.
On April 21, an inter-sectoral working group led by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thai Nguyen province coordinated with relevant units to work and inspect at Tan My landfill and took 12 samples including soil, surface water and solid waste for testing.
This will be an important basis for assessing the level of impact on the environment and as a basis for developing a plan and funding to close the landfill that has been stagnant for many years.

According to PV's investigation, Tan My landfill was once directly managed and operated by Song Cong Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company (belonging to the old Song Cong City) with an area of more than 5ha.
When it was still operating, on average, this landfill received nearly 50 tons of domestic waste from the entire Song Cong City (old).
From July 2025 (the time of operation of the 2-level local government), Tan My landfill was temporarily assigned to Song Cong Environment Co., Ltd. for management. Domestic waste has no longer been transferred here, but the current situation and consequences continue to prolong.
While the rainy season is approaching, the pollution situation at Tan My landfill may become more serious, people are waiting for drastic and quick actions from Thai Nguyen provincial authorities to close the landfill and end the prolonged environmental pollution situation.
