Nghe An focuses all its efforts to overcome the consequences of floods

Storm No. 3 and flood circulation have destroyed many localities in Nghe An, causing thousands of billions of VND in damage. The Government, ministries, branches and local forces are focusing on helping people overcome the consequences, rebuild infrastructure and stabilize their lives.

Concentrating forces to rescue people, minimizing damage

According to the updated report of Nghe An province, as of July 31, storm No. 3 and floods have caused particularly serious consequences in the province with 4 deaths, 4 injuries, nearly 7,500 damaged houses, 40 schools and thousands of hectares of crops, production forests were destroyed, infrastructure systems such as roads, schools, medical stations, and headquarters of state agencies were seriously damaged. The total initial damage is estimated at about 3,546 billion VND.

In the face of complicated floods, the Prime Minister has directed the response work, requiring Nghe An to review and evacuate residents and assets from dangerous areas, and organize a 24/7 on-duty force. Immediately after the natural disaster, the Prime Minister continued to request localities to quickly overcome the consequences, stabilize their lives and restore production. Ministries, branches and Nghe An province have mobilized maximum resources, promptly supported people to repair their houses, essential infrastructure and provide relief goods.

In particular, on July 23-24, Party Central Committee member and Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh directly visited Nghe An to inspect the scene, direct the work of overcoming, visiting, encouraging people and giving gifts to share difficulties. Accompanying the delegation were leaders of many central ministries and branches and Nghe An province.

Before that and in the following days, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh and many provincial leaders continuously led inspection and direction teams in vulnerable localities such as Cua Lo, Tuong Duong, Nhon Mai, Tri Le, Muong tip, Chieu Luu, Ban Ve. Police, military, border guards, and mass organizations also directly went to the grassroots to organize relief, helping people overcome the damage.

The Provincial Military Command mobilized more than 31,241 officers and soldiers to participate in the rescue, using 41 boats, 259 cars, 10 helicopters to transport 28 tons of relief goods (shrimp bread, rice, milk, drinking water...) to 7 isolated mountainous communes. The provincial police have evacuated more than 3,400 households from dangerous areas, increased 4,250 officers and soldiers to protect security and order at landslides and deep flooding sites, and organized donations to support people in flooded areas. Nghe An Provincial Youth Union established 130 youth volunteer teams with 2,000 union members participating in relief, cleaning and restoring life after the flood.

The Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Construction urgently mobilized dozens of tons of food, drinking water, and medicine to the isolated areas.

The whole country turned to Nghe An

As of 10:00 a.m. on July 30, through the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, agencies, units, businesses and individuals have donated a total of more than 56.028 billion VND (including cash, transfers and relief goods). The Provincial Red Cross Society received an additional VND2.775 billion.

Previously, on July 26, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac and benefactors presented 7 billion VND in support to people in flooded areas in the West of Nghe An. Many working groups of ministries, branches and charitable organizations directly visited Nghe An to visit, encourage and give gifts to support people.

Currently, Nghe An province is continuing to focus all its efforts to overcome the consequences, search and support households that have lost their homes, and restore essential infrastructure. The provincial leaders called on organizations and individuals to join hands to help people overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.

Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh shared: "The historic flood caused heavy damage to the mountainous areas in the West of the province, and the work to overcome the consequences encountered many difficulties. However, the province is determined and committed to not letting any people go hungry or be left behind, the entire political system will make the highest efforts to soon return to normal life and stabilize production and business activities".
