On July 28, the La Lay International Border Guard Station (Quang Tri Border Guard) said that there was moderate rain with strong winds of level 6-7. Prolonged rain caused a landslide on National Highway 15D through km 8, causing traffic congestion.
Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Truong Khoi - Head of the La Lay International Border Guard Station informed that the landslide occurred at around 3-4am the same day, at the location where the road was being widened.
Previously, on July 7, a landslide also occurred at this location causing traffic congestion and has been fixed. However, prolonged rain caused rocks and soil from the top of the mountain to continue to flow onto the road.
Currently, the unit is coordinating with construction contractors to quickly handle the situation and ensure traffic.
The Traffic Maintenance Management Board - Department of Construction of Quang Tri province said that this is one of 11 curves under construction to ensure traffic safety on this route. This unit will mobilize forces to handle the landslide site, and the road is expected to open to traffic on July 28.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, since July 26, prolonged rain in the border mountainous areas has caused local disruption of many roads in Khe Sanh, A Doi, lia and Dakrong communes. In that situation, Quang Tri province has issued a warning of landslide risk, requesting localities to review and proactively evacuate people to safe places.
