Lam Dong - A resident of Son Dien commune voluntarily handed over a rare mountain eagle to functional agencies to release back into nature.

On January 27, Son Dien Commune Police (Lam Dong province) said that the unit had just coordinated with functional forces to receive a mountain eagle individual voluntarily handed over by a local resident.

The person who handed over the rare mountain eagle is Mr. P (residing in Son Dien commune). According to Mr. P's presentation, in early January 2026, an eagle often flew into the family's garden to catch chickens.

In a predator hunt, the bird got caught in a chicken coop net and was caught by Mr. P, then kept at home.

After being propagated and mobilized by Son Dien Commune Police about legal regulations related to wildlife protection, Mr. P voluntarily brought the bird to hand over to functional agencies.

Son Dien Commune Police have coordinated with Di Linh Regional Forest Protection Department, Di Linh Forestry Co., Ltd. and Bac Son Forest Management Board to carry out receiving procedures according to regulations.

Through verification, the individual bird was identified as a mountain eagle (scientific name Nisaetus nipalensis, also known as mountain kite), belonging to group IIB - a group of endangered and rare forest animals. The individual bird weighed about 2.5kg, had stable health, and was not injured.

After completing the necessary procedures, this morning, January 27, functional forces proceeded to release the mountain eagle into the natural environment.
