At a recent voter meeting, Da Nang Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang said that to position Da Nang as a regional and world-class tourist city, the issue of landscape and environmental sanitation must be put first. In which, in 2026, Da Nang strives to reach over 10 million visitors, with more than 1/3 being international visitors. Therefore, thoroughly resolving waste becomes more urgent than ever. Currently, waste in old Da Nang is still mainly treated in the form of landfilling, while the old Da Nang area almost has no area left to continue maintaining this method.
Therefore, Da Nang is focusing on mobilizing all resources, removing legal barriers to attract investment in new technology waste treatment plants. The focus is the Khanh Son landfill area, where two waste treatment plant projects are being implemented with capacities of 650 tons/day and 1,000 tons/day respectively. In which, the 1,000 tons/day solid waste treatment plant project was formed in 2017, initially using ADB capital. In 2019, the Prime Minister made adjustments related to the list of works for PPP projects, including this project list. The project is implemented at the Khanh Son Solid Waste Treatment Complex with a total estimated investment of more than 823 billion VND.

Da Nang City Party Secretary also informed that when these waste-to-energy plants are inaugurated in 2027, all the waste currently buried at landfills will be collected for treatment using modern incineration technology. Through actual visits to localities that have implemented such as Hanoi, city leaders expect these plants to have a clean and beautiful appearance like "5-star hotels", no odor and thorough pollution treatment. Investors are currently committed to the city to complete the inauguration of these plants no later than May 2027 to promptly solve the waste problem for the old urban area.
In the South of Da Nang, the waste treatment and power generation plant project at the Nam Quang Nam solid waste treatment area (Nui Thanh commune) has a scale of 17.1 ha with a total designed capacity of 2,000 tons/day and night. This project has the ability to treat a variety of waste sources, including 600 tons of domestic waste and up to 1,400 tons of conventional and hazardous industrial waste.
The project in the South Quang Nam area not only destroys waste but also combines production, transmission and distribution of electricity, expected to operate for 50 years. As of January 2026, the Da Nang Department of Finance has received proposals from the consortium of Ngoi Sao Xanh Environment Co., Ltd. and Cam Thach Xanh Joint Stock Company. These units wish to implement the project in the form of investment policy approval and investor approval to shorten the implementation time.
