Many residential areas and roads in Lam Dong are affected by floods

Lam Dong - Prolonged rain and floods cause flooding and landslides in many localities, affecting 47 houses, 14.7ha of crops and many works and roads.

Dozens of homes affected

On September 13, the Steering Committee for Civil Defense of Lam Dong province issued a quick report on initial damage caused by floods from September 8 to September 11 throughout the province.

During the above period, many areas in the province experienced moderate to heavy rain.

Some places recorded heavy rainfall such as Cat Tien 109mm, Tan Minh 100mm, Da Teh 81mm, Son Dien 79mm.

Currently, Lam Dong is forecast to continue to have moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms in some places, with common rainfall of 70-130mm.

Functional agencies warn of a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in areas with steep terrain and weak geology.

Statistics as of September 11, natural disasters have affected 47 houses in the province. In which, Ta Dung commune has 35 households in residential clusters 14, 16, Dak R'Mang 1 village deeply flooded, water flooded into houses causing property damage.

In Quang Son commune, 3 houses located in the landslide area have been relocated to a safe place. Nam Gia Nghia ward has 5 households affected by flooding, water in houses has gradually receded.

Natural disasters also caused flooding of about 14.7ha of crops. Suoi Kiet commune has about 10ha of crops along Mo stream flooded; Quang Tin commune 3.4ha and Quang Hoa commune about 1ha. In Ta Dung commune, many agricultural production areas are still flooded.

Many roads and works are damaged

In Ta Dung commune, 7 points on traffic routes were deeply flooded from 1-3m. The locality also recorded 5 taluy landslide points.

In Suoi Kiet commune, the yard of Suoi Kiet Elementary School was flooded 30-40cm, and the road to Suoi Lao area was interrupted.

Bac Gia Nghia ward experienced a landslide on a concrete road, collapsing about 20m of the fence of Chu Van An Secondary School.

In addition, Bac Gia Nghia ward recorded an irrigation project built by people themselves being damaged and some landslide locations.

Quang Tin commune has a landslide and subsidence point in the residential and business area. Dong Gia Nghia Ward also recorded a positive taluy landslide point.

In particular, on the night of September 11 and 12, landslides occurred on D'ran Pass and Prenn Pass (National Highway 20), causing many difficulties and obstacles for traffic to Da Lat.

Preliminary estimated damage from natural disasters is more than 3 billion VND. Localities are continuing to review and assess the extent of the impact.

Faced with heavy rain, local authorities have mobilized forces to support people to relocate people and property out of dangerous areas; provided food, drinking water and supported the stabilization of life.

Functional forces simultaneously planted warning signs, cordoned off landslide points, arranged people to be on duty and mobilized machinery to treat soil and rocks, clear the flow, and ensure safety for people and vehicles.
