Dung K'No 5 resettlement area, Dam Rong 4 commune, Lam Dong province is built to arrange safe accommodation for people in areas at risk of natural disasters.
The project has a scale of about 15ha, with a total investment of 38 billion VND. Phase 1 was completed, handing over land to 73 households from 2020.
However, after a period of use, landslides and subsidence appeared in many locations in the resettlement area. Prolonged heavy rain caused soil and rocks on the surrounding hillsides to become unstable, forming many landslide arcs.
In many locations, taluy slopes are eroded, forming high soil cliffs, close to people's houses.
Some auxiliary works were tilted and collapsed when the ground below slid. The cracked and subsided soil also caused drainage ditches and some concrete items to break.
Rainwater from above continues to flow through damaged drainage works, causing soil erosion, increasing the risk of landslides.
Faced with the above situation, people have to use tarpaulins, bricks and available items to block and direct the water flow, limiting erosion into the area near their houses.
Every time it rains heavily, households must regularly monitor the development of the soil around their residences.
Local authorities have erected warning signs of danger, areas at risk of landslides in unsafe locations.
On September 12, talking to reporters, Mr. Khong Huu Kien - Chairman of Dam Rong 4 Commune People's Committee said that in the face of the complicated developments of rain and floods, the locality has relocated 13 households in the dangerous area of the resettlement area to a safe place.
According to Mr. Kien, the locality is ensuring food, accommodation and support regimes according to regulations for households that must be relocated.
Faced with the complicated diễn biến of landslides, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province has announced an emergency situation for natural disasters at the Dung K'No 5 resettlement area, requesting the implementation of measures to ensure safety for people and handle dangerous areas.
Notably, phase 2 of the resettlement area is being implemented with a budget of nearly 24 billion VND.
The continuous complicated development of landslides poses an urgent requirement to ensure safety for people and stabilize the ground in the area.
