Water recedes rapidly at flooded points in Da Nang after heavy rain

Da Nang - After heavy rain on September 12, at places that were heavily flooded, the water receded quickly thanks to the new drainage system and the proactiveness from the ward level.

Living in the Me Suot street area - a flood hotspot for many years every time it rains heavily, Ms. Nguyen Thi Be could not hide her excitement after the rain on September 12.

Compared to previous years, the recent heavy rain has made us people much more reassured. A few years ago, it only took about 1 to 2 hours of rain for the water to rise and overflow the sidewalk and then flood into the house. This year, functional forces in the ward and drainage workers continuously went to collect garbage and clean manholes before the rain started.

Thanks to this, water rushes down to the sewer very quickly, when the rain stops, the road surface is immediately dry. The heavily flooded hotspots around here have decreased significantly, people are less afraid every time they hear news of storms and floods" - Ms. Be shared.

Implementing the directive of Da Nang City People's Committee on disaster and flood response plans according to the "four on-site" motto, the authorities of wards throughout the area have proactively implemented many measures to protect the safety of the people.

Right before and on September 12, in Son Tra ward, the Order Police Team coordinated with grassroots security forces to organize continuous patrols in the Suoi Da area to grasp the situation and remind people to raise their vigilance against the risk of sudden water surges. The Standing Militia force of the ward also urgently coordinated with residential areas to clear fallen green trees and clear roads to ensure smooth traffic.

In other localities such as Hai Chau, Thanh Khe or Hoa Cuong, working groups closely monitoring flooded areas have coordinated with drainage workers to be on duty to treat waste residue, proactively dismantling odor-blocking covers arbitrarily installed by people on manholes, creating maximum smooth flow for the drainage system.

In parallel with the proactiveness from the grassroots level, the Da Nang City Department of Construction has advised on implementing a series of flood control solutions. Typically, focusing on dredging ditches and sewers, lowering the water level at regulating lakes to the lowest level before each heavy rain, and at the same time operating maximum capacity of flood control pumping stations.

In particular, the city's permission to deploy 9 projects to clear and renovate the small-scale drainage system to be completed in 2026 has brought immediate efficiency at local bottlenecks. For long-term goals, the city is actively urging the progress of 12 large drainage projects in the central area and the flood control project in the South worth about 7,000 billion VND.

Towards the people affected by floods
