On June 22, Dam Rong 3 Commune Police (Lam Dong) said that the unit had just coordinated with functional agencies to receive a rare pangolin individual voluntarily handed over by a resident.

Previously, Mr. Bui Van Dong (resident of Dam Rong 3 commune) discovered a wild animal individual appearing on the road in front of Dien may Xanh store in Phi Co village, Dam Rong 3 commune.
Realizing that this is an animal species that needs to be protected, Mr. Dong proactively notified and handed it over to functional agencies for handling according to regulations.
After receiving information, Dam Rong 3 Commune Police coordinated with the Commune People's Committee and Dam Rong Forest Protection Department to receive, check the health status and complete related procedures.
Through verification, the above animal individual was identified as a Java pangolin (scientific name Manis javanica), belonging to Group IB - a list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals prioritized for protection. The pangolin individual weighs about 3.5kg, with stable health.
Functional agencies said they will carry out the necessary procedures to care for, rescue and re-release pangolins to the natural environment according to regulations.
According to Dam Rong 3 Commune Police, people's proactive handover of rare and precious wild animals shows awareness of law compliance and contributes to protecting endangered, precious and rare animal species in the area.
