Many rare forest animals in Lam Dong are rescued

Lam Dong - Over the past time, many local people have voluntarily handed over rare forest animals to functional agencies for rescue and re-release into nature.

On the morning of January 9, the Lam Dong Provincial Forest Protection Department said that the promotion of propaganda and mobilization by functional agencies has contributed to raising people's awareness of law compliance in protecting forest animals; and at the same time showing responsibility for biodiversity conservation.

Thanks to that, in the past time, many people have proactively handed over endangered, precious, and rare forest animals to the police and forest rangers for rescue and release back into nature.

On January 8, Ms. Pham Thi Phuong's family (Quang Tan commune, Lam Dong) contacted the commune police to hand over two long-tailed monkeys (one male, one female).

According to the family, these two monkeys regularly entered the residential area to find food, causing damage to their belongings, so they were arrested and handed over to the police agency.

Quang Tan Commune Police coordinated with the local Forest Protection Department to receive and complete the procedures for releasing the two monkeys back to their natural environment.

Previously, on January 6 and 7, two people in Phan Son commune (Lam Dong province) voluntarily handed over two rare forest animals, lion monkeys and incense beetles, to re-release to the natural environment.

Specifically, Mr. K'Krieng (56 years old, residing in Ta Moon village, Phan Son commune) proactively contacted Phan Son Commune Police to hand over a male lion monkey (scientific name Macaca leonina), weighing about 9kg, in good health.

This is a endangered, precious, and rare forest animal species, listed in the Vietnam Red Book, belonging to group IIB that needs to be protected.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc (33 years old, residing in Phan Son commune) handed over a rooster weighing about 1.2kg, with stable health. This species is also on the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals, group IIB according to regulations.

After receiving them, Phan Son Commune Police coordinated with the forest rangers to re-release the forest animals to their natural environment in accordance with regulations.

Similarly, on January 5, Mr. Tran Xuan Vinh (Ta Nang commune, Lam Dong province) also voluntarily handed over a rare black-cheeked white-cheeked gibbon, weighing about 10kg, to functional agencies. This is an endangered, precious, and rare forest animal belonging to group IB, strictly protected by law.

According to statistics, from the beginning of December 2025 to now, functional agencies of localities in Lam Dong province have received dozens of precious and rare forest animals voluntarily handed over by people.

The adopted species include monkeys, rhinos, pangolins, cranes, ostriches, wild chickens, pheasants, pythons, lilies and many wild birds.

After receiving, functional agencies proceeded to rescue, care for and re-release forest animal individuals to the natural environment according to regulations.

Ms. Ly Thi Song - Deputy Head of Lam Dong Provincial Forest Protection Department - said that the voluntary handover of forest animals by people is the result of the persistent and persistent propaganda process of the police force, forest rangers and local authorities, contributing to bringing the law step by step into life.
