On August 1, Mr. Mai Van Tung - Chairman of Quang Khe Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong province) confirmed that a drowning incident had just occurred in the area, killing 2 students.
According to initial information, at about 2 pm on July 31, 5 children invited each other to swim at a natural lake about 4m deep in Phi Mur village, Quang Khe commune.
At about 3 pm, some children who went with her ran back to report to adults that two sisters N.T. T (9 years old) and N.T. P (7 years old) drowned and went missing.
People and families quickly arrived at the scene to bring the two victims ashore and transfer them to the hospital for emergency treatment. However, both children did not survive.
Immediately after receiving the news, Quang Khe Commune Police were present at the scene, coordinating to verify the cause of the incident.
According to the police agency, the family did not request scene examination, autopsy and committed not to complain later. The bodies of the two victims have been handed over to the family for funeral arrangements according to local customs.
Currently, local authorities have visited, encouraged, expressed condolences and supported the families with part of the funeral expenses for the victims.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported: On July 10, at Dak Pok irrigation lake (Nam Nung commune, Lam Dong province), a particularly serious drowning incident also occurred, causing 5 students of Nam N'Dir Secondary School to die while swimming in the lake.
The incident sounded an alarm bell about the risk of drowning for children during summer vacation in Lam Dong province, especially in rural areas with many ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams.
