Updated from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, tonight (April 12), the wind force in the center of super typhoon Sinlaku has increased to 105 kts, equivalent to level 16, gusting above level 17.
Vietnam's meteorological agency assessed that this is the first storm in 2026 to reach this intensity. At the same time, Sinlaku is one of the rare storms to reach super typhoon level in April after Typhoon Surigae (2021) and is only the third super typhoon since 1977.
Currently, Sinlaku is also the strongest storm in the world in 2026, with a central pressure of 920 hPa (as of now), surpassing Hurricane Maila in the Australian region (924 hPa).
The intensity of Super Typhoon Sinlaku is strongest at level 16 - 17, gusting above level 17. Super Typhoon Sinlaku will change direction to move north, then it is likely to continue to change direction again to north-northeast direction around April 16 - 17. 4 and move to the eastern sea of Japan and the intensity will gradually decrease.
Currently, storm forecasts all show that the storm will not be able to enter the East Sea area. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting is still closely monitoring the developments of this early-season super typhoon.
