On March 5, Ho Chi Minh City officially started construction of the VietStar Domestic solid waste treatment plant at the Northwest Waste Treatment Complex, Cu Chi District. The project is invested by VietStar Joint Stock Company with a total capital of VND 3,500 billion, using integrated technology from Germany, with a capacity to process 2,000 tons of waste/day.
This is the second waste-to-energy plant in Ho Chi Minh City, implemented under Resolution 98/2023/QH15 on the city's specific development mechanism. This event marks an important step forward in efforts to solve the problem of urban waste treatment, towards the goal of 100% of waste being treated by 2030 using incineration and recycling technology.

VietStar factory applies advanced technology, combined with compost production classification and waste incineration for power generation, expected to be completed after 17 months of construction. When put into operation, the plant will treat about 45-50% of the city's total domestic waste, reduce pollution and create a source of renewable energy.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized the importance of the project in the city's sustainable development strategy. He requested VietStar Joint Stock Company to strictly comply with regulations on progress, quality, environment and labor safety.

Ho Chi Minh City cannot stand still, but must strive strongly, take the lead in implementing the ecological urban model, sustainable development, making the most of science and technology to solve the problem of waste, and protect the living environment for more than 10 million people. And the VietStar solid waste treatment plant project is a testament to that growth" - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong said.
Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Toan Thang pledged to accompany and support investors so that waste treatment projects can be effectively implemented.
