In the context of many grassroots areas, there are still many poor households, policy families and children in difficult circumstances struggling to care for essential daily needs, from accommodation, living to studying. For low-income people, problems such as degraded roofs, lack of warm clothes in winter or the risk of children having to drop out of school due to lack of money are not only immediate difficulties, but can also affect the long-term life and future of the whole family.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Member of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Binh Ward, Secretary of the Hoa Binh Ward Youth Union (Phu Tho) - said that from that reality, many activities to support vulnerable people have been implemented by mass organizations in the area in a practical and long-term direction, focusing on the most basic needs of the people.
One of the priority contents is to support the construction and repair of houses for poor households and families in particularly difficult circumstances. Through the "For the Poor" Fund and the contributions of organizations, businesses, philanthropists, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, and mass organizations, the Great Solidarity House has been completed and handed over to some households. The houses are supported with appropriate funding, ensuring minimum living conditions, helping people have a more stable and safer place to live, reducing worries about life's fluctuations.
Not only stopping at housing issues, time-sensitive difficulties, especially in winter and Tet, are also of concern to Youth Union organizations. According to Mr. Hung, the "Winter Volunteer 2025 - Spring Volunteer 2026" program organized by Hoa Binh Ward Youth Union in coordination with Van Son Commune Youth Union (Phu Tho) has targeted households and children in difficult circumstances in Van Son commune. Through the program, tons of clothes, necessities, school supplies, warm blankets and Tet gifts have been handed directly to people, contributing to helping people overcome the cold winter and have more conditions to celebrate Tet.
In addition to short-term support activities, long-term companionship with disadvantaged children is also set as a more sustainable requirement. From there, the "Young Foster Sibling of the Union" model is implemented, in the form of each union branch and union member registering to sponsor students in difficult circumstances, orphans or poor and near-poor households. The support content is not only living expenses, books, clothes, but also tutoring in study, spiritual encouragement and training orientation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, the common point of these activities is that they originate from the actual needs of the people, deployed on a moderate scale but maintained regularly, in order to help vulnerable people gradually stabilize their lives. “The support not only solves immediate difficulties, but more importantly, creates more confidence for people and children to feel secure to rise up,” Mr. Hung shared.
From repaired houses, winter gifts to accompanying disadvantaged children, activities at the grassroots level are contributing to gradually narrowing social security gaps. There, decent work is not noisy, but persistent, starting from the community where people are living.
