On March 30, the Chairman of Hai Van Ward People's Committee, Da Nang City, just came to the house to present certificates of merit and commend Mr. Le Cong Quang, 57 years old, residing in group 45, Hai Van ward for his courageous act of rescuing two drowning children at Nam O beach.
Previously, at about 1:30 pm on March 29, at Nam O beach, after just swimming, Mr. Quang heard shouts of someone drowning. Quickly observing, he discovered two young children struggling, about 40 m from the shore, being swept away by the waves.
Without hesitation, he immediately jumped into the sea. In high waves, he approached and successively brought the two children ashore safely. When they reached the sandy beach, one child was still awake, and the other child showed signs of danger.
Mr. Quang quickly performed artificial respiration for one child, and at the same time called on people to support first aid for the other child and contact the emergency room. When the medical car arrived, he continued to accompany them to help take the children to the hospital.
The two victims are N.X. P. (7 years old) and V.T. A. (4 years old), residing near the Nam O sea area. Currently, P. is awake, can be exposed but is still panicked. A. is being monitored and treated in the intensive care unit of Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
Recognizing this action, leaders of Hai Van Ward People's Committee went to Mr. Le Cong Quang's house to present certificates of merit and commend him. The government assessed this as a brave gesture, timely to save people in dangerous situations.
Mr. Quang's actions show a sense of responsibility to the community, not afraid of danger. This is a role model that needs to be spread in society.
The incident is also a warning about the risk of drowning in the sea area, especially for young children. People need to strengthen supervision and equip themselves with safety skills when participating in water activities.
