Recently, many scrap and scrap collection points in Hanoi have cooperated with environmental enterprises to create a model for collecting, classifying and recycling plastic waste. In which, the main force for collecting and classifying scrap are scrap and scrap collectors.
They are provided with knowledge about types of plastic waste and how to classify them, to become "green warriors". From there, this force becomes an indispensable part of the plastic waste recovery model.
Every morning at 8am, Ms. Tran Thi Hoa (56 years old, Ha Nam) roams the streets and alleys of Hanoi to collect garbage and scrap.
After collecting enough quantities, Ms. Hoa transports them to the collection point and sorts them. Next, these types of waste will be taken to the factory for processing and recycling into other products.
Ms. Hoa said that before, she only collected scrap metal in her hometown. After her son passed the university entrance exam, she and her son moved to the city to live.
Four years ago, she accidentally learned about this plastic waste recycling model and joined in. People like Ms. Hoa are called “green warriors”.
“Every day, I start work at 8am and work until 10pm to take care of myself and my family. Before, I just collected scrap and sold it to scrap yards without sorting it. Since joining the model, I have gained a lot of knowledge about recycling, processing and sorting plastic waste,” Ms. Hoa shared.
More than 30 years ago, Ms. Le Thi Luong (60 years old, Nam Dinh) took her husband to Hanoi for medical treatment. At that time, it was difficult, so Ms. Luong also chose to collect scrap metal and sell it to scrap yards to earn income to take care of her family.
Previously, Ms. Luong could not help but feel sorry for herself, thinking many times because of her unstable income and the many negative looks from society. But since participating in the waste collection and recycling model, Ms. Luong is no longer alone and has a different perspective on the scrap metal job.
“I feel happy because I can contribute to the process of recycling and regenerating waste and scrap. Besides, this job also helps make the environment greener, cleaner and more beautiful,” said Ms. Luong.
