On October 15, representatives of the Golden Heart Social Fund and the Kien Giang Provincial Red Cross visited and presented donations from Lao Dong Newspaper readers to two situations in An Bien district.
After the article “9-year-old boy collects scrap metal to support his sick father” was published in Lao Dong Newspaper, readers from near and far sent 10,190,000 VND in donations to the family to help ease their difficulties.
Although only 9 years old, Danh Thanh Duoc (living in Bao Tram hamlet, Nam Yen commune, An Bien district) is the main breadwinner who takes care of living expenses, medicine for his father, and daily meals. After morning school, Duoc rushes home to cook, clean the house, take care of his father, and then rushes back to school in the afternoon. In his free time, Duoc collects scrap metal to sell to earn money to pay for his father's medicine and food for the family.
Receiving donations from readers, Duoc happily shared: “I am very grateful to everyone for their help. I will try to study hard to become a police officer when I grow up to protect everyone and take care of my father.”
On the same day, representatives of the Golden Heart Social Fund also visited and presented 5,965,000 VND from Lao Dong Newspaper readers to Ms. Thi Xet - the character in the article "Wife with heart disease works hard alone to take care of her sick husband and children's education".
The family of Ms. Thi Xet (born in 1984), residing in Quarter 3, Thu Ba Town, An Bien District, is anxiously living in a prefabricated house built nearly 20 years ago. The daily expenses of the 5 members depend entirely on her meager lottery ticket sales.
Her husband is sick, her children are in school, and she has a heart condition, but Ms. Xet still tries every day to overcome life's difficulties. Receiving the money from readers, she choked up: "I am very happy, very grateful, and thank you for your support. I wish I had money to repair my house, but now it is so dilapidated that I worry every day. My health is not good, but if I don't do it, who will take care of it, so I just try my best."
Visiting and encouraging the circumstances, Ms. Bui Thuy Hao - Vice President of the Red Cross Society of Kien Giang province - said that in recent times, the Golden Heart Social and Cultural Fund of Lao Dong Newspaper has helped many difficult circumstances in Kien Giang province. Through the articles "Canh doi" published in the newspaper, the newspaper's readers have shared and joined hands to help the circumstances. This has partly helped them reduce their difficulties and have more motivation to rise up in life.
