Being pregnant and giving birth at the age of over 50 can be a challenge and a courage for many people, but for Ms. T.T.N (52 years old, living in Phu Tho), it is a sacred journey with incomparable happiness.
In June 2023, Ms. N first visited the Center for Reproductive Support and Andrology, Phu Tho Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital with the desire to perform reproductive support using in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The examination results showed that she had ovarian failure, with an ovarian reserve index (AMH) of only 0.3ng/ml (while this index in normal healthy women is between 2.0 - 6.8ng/ml).
Considering that this was a difficult case because the patient was old, and that even if the IVF was successful, the pregnancy would be very difficult, the doctors encouraged and advised her a lot. However, faced with Ms. N's desire and aspiration to become a mother again, the doctors were convinced.
Ms. N was given a separate treatment regimen, closely monitored, and given medication to induce menstruation (due to poor endocrine and irregular menstruation). MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai - Deputy Director of the Center for Reproductive Support and Andrology (who directly examined and treated Ms. N) - shared: “This is a very special case because Ms. N is one of the oldest patients to have ever come to the Center.
The patient had ovarian failure, very few eggs and poor quality. At the time of egg retrieval, the doctors could only retrieve 1 good quality egg, which was then fertilized and created a single embryo. But for the doctors and the patient, that was the hope after a series of days of relentless effort."

On April 9, 2024, Ms. N had her embryo transferred and was lucky to get pregnant on the first try. The prognosis for the pregnancy may not be favorable due to the patient's old age. The doctors have wholeheartedly guided and closely accompanied Ms. N throughout her pregnancy. Ms. N is also always careful and manages her pregnancy according to the doctor's instructions to ensure the safety of both mother and child until the day of birth.
“The moment I received the pregnancy test results is a moment that will always be engraved in my mind. At this age, I am pregnant again, a mother again, something that seemed like a dream has now come true” - Ms. N tearfully confided after “mother and child are safe and sound”.
The healthy baby boy born on December 11, 2024, weighing 3.6 kg, is the "sweet fruit" of Ms. N's in vitro fertilization (IVF) process. In 2024, Ms. N was the second case to give birth to a healthy baby at the age of 52 thanks to IVF at the Hospital.
