Hai Phong - Nearly 340 years old, the banyan tree in Tieu Tra communal house yard (Duong Kinh district, Hai Phong) is still green all year round, "protecting" many generations of people here.

Tieu Tra Communal House was built in the traditional style during the reign of King Le Hy Tong, Chinh Hoa era (1680 - 1705). The Communal House worships Nam Hai Dai Vuong - General Pham Hai of the Hung King era, the first person to establish Tieu Tra village. In 2002, the Communal House was ranked as a city-level historical and cultural relic by the Hai Phong City People's Committee.

1
In the area of over 6,300 m2 of Tieu Tra communal house, the most prominent is the banyan tree which is nearly 340 years old, a "witness" to the history of Tieu Tra land. According to the elders in the village, the banyan tree in Tieu Tra communal house has become a traditional cultural heritage connecting generations of Tieu Tra village in particular and Hung Dao ward in general.
2
Under the shade of the banyan tree, many generations of local people have organized festivals, cultural, sports and community activities. Also under this tree, farmers from Tieu Tra village attended the first literacy classes after the August Revolution. This is also where many exciting activities of the union members and youth of Hung Dao commune took place during the resistance war against the French.
3
In 2017, the banyan tree at Tieu Tra communal house and the longan tree at Tieu Tra pagoda were recognized as Vietnam heritage trees. At this time, the banyan tree has just turned 330 years old. The banyan tree is over 3 centuries old and is huge, with a diameter of over 2m, many people can barely hug it.
4
The tree trunk is also crooked and striped over time, the branches and roots intertwine to create a unique shape.
5
From the base of the huge tree, hundreds of branches and twigs grow luxuriantly, spreading out hundreds of meters wide.
6
The branches and leaves are green all year round, and in the fall, the fruit is ripe and bright red.

6
According to local people, after hundreds of years, the banyan tree is still green and little affected by the weather. However, recently, on September 7, storm No. 3 made landfall in Hai Phong, uprooting and breaking tens of thousands of trees, and the banyan tree also had many broken branches. According to Mr. Minh - representative of the Management Board of Tieu Tra Communal House and Pagoda, the villagers were very sad when the banyan tree was affected by the storm, however, fortunately, only small branches were damaged and the tree continued to grow green and healthy.
thb
Along with the 338-year-old banyan tree at Tieu Tra communal house, the heritage longan tree at Tieu Tra pagoda (next to the communal house) has also survived for more than 3 centuries, becoming the pride of many generations of Tieu Tra people. The heritage trees also contribute to enhancing the beauty of the Tieu Tra communal house and pagoda relic complex - attracting thousands of people and tourists to visit and worship every year.
