Know how to accept

Việt Văn |

A friend of his discovered cancer in his fifties.

In the early stages, that man rummaged through all documents related to cancer, called friends and acquaintances for advice, asked acquaintances and many times still did not accept that he had a terminal illness. But the more he strained himself to resist, the more exhausted he became.

Until one day, after a long chemotherapy session, he looked out the hospital window and said to his wife: "Now, you have to accept that you are seriously ill.

Suddenly from the moment of letting go of that resistance, you start to come back to life. You are still being treated, still in pain, but your heart is no longer erupting. You learn to be grateful for a day without fever, a delicious meal, a deep sleep. Cancer cells do not disappear, but the suffering from denying reality has vanished.

We often mistakenly believe that strength lies in denial. Not accepting that we are old, so we cling to youth; not accepting that fate is shallow, so we torment each other; not accepting failure, so we resent fate. But reality does not disappear just because we close our eyes. It only silently grows up in the darkness of avoidance. As psychologist Carl Jung once said: "What we try to push out of consciousness will return in more painful forms.

Fear of being buried becomes anxiety and unrecognized hurt will turn into anger. In every tragedy, what hurts us the most is not the incident itself, but the denial of that incident. We are not only hurt by loss, but hurt by helplessness in the face of the fact that everything has changed forever.

The more we hate our own limits and weaknesses, the more we imprison ourselves in spiritual hell. But accepting is not surrendering. We can only start to change when we stop considering ourselves strangers.

Life does not require you to be perfect or invincible. It just requires you to be brave enough to look straight at the wound and accept the imperfections of yourself. Sometimes, the greatest victory of a person's life is not conquering the world, but calmly saying to the face in the mirror: This has happened, and I will learn to live with it, instead of fighting against it forever.

After a long period of chemotherapy, your illness has subsided. And as soon as you left the hospital, you and your husband went on a long trip to the mountains together. You woke up early to watch the sunrise, watch the sunset late in the afternoon, and went for a walk in the evening, now every day is a joyful day.

You are imbued with the saying of a Zen master: "Thank you life for waking up every morning/ Giving us a new day to love".
