This proposal has received great attention, because this is not only about opening another road, but also a solution to relieve traffic pressure that has lasted for many years in the gateway area of the Southeast region.
National Highway 51 is currently a vital route connecting Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai with Ba Ria - Vung Tau. This route has to carry a huge amount of vehicles every day, from tourist cars, container trucks to heavy trucks serving the transportation of goods in and out of the seaport system.
Overload pressure causes National Highway 51 to be frequently congested, especially on weekends, holidays and tourist seasons. Many road sections have become "hot spots" of traffic jams stretching for kilometers.
Not only traffic jams, the risk of traffic accidents is also always high due to high traffic volume and mixed vehicle density.
Therefore, the early commissioning of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway will create a new traffic axis, sharing traffic for National Highway 51.
Just a part of the vehicle switching to the expressway, the pressure on the existing national highway will be significantly reduced.
The first benefit is travel time, vehicles are not held back on National Highway 51.
The second benefit is traffic safety, vehicles switching to highways, safe traffic not only on highways but also on National Highway 51.
The third benefit is to promote economic development. The expressway not only serves travel but also plays an important role in the logistics network of the Southeast region.
In particular, the expressway is also directly connected to the Long Thanh International Airport area - a national strategic infrastructure project.
When the airport comes into operation, this highway will become an important traffic axis for transporting passengers and goods from major economic centers to the airport.
Opening phase 1, this expressway is expected to allow cars and passenger cars under 29 seats to circulate. Although not fully exploited, putting a section into use early still shows clear effectiveness.
Late commissioning will cause waste, thousands of vehicles have to jostle on National Highway 51. People lose more time on the road, and social costs continue to increase.
Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City's proposal to open traffic early is reasonable and needs to be considered quickly.
For key traffic routes such as the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, opening to traffic one day early not only saves time, but also creates another day of economic development for the entire region.
