Watching the clip of a family member of a child patient cursing, screaming and beating a medical staff at Thanh Ba Medical Center (Phu Tho province), it is difficult for anyone to control their anger and indignation.
On the evening of April 25, a 12-year-old child was diagnosed with a traffic accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken forehead, and multiple soft wounds...
Immediately after the antibiotic injection, the child showed signs of anaphylactic shock. The family lost their composure, stood around the hospital bed, and continuously screamed and beat the doctor.
The doctors and nurses were very calm, focusing on successfully treating the child. In an emergency situation, there was only a few minutes of "golden opportunity", if there was a delay, the child could not survive.
The heart and responsibility of doctors are shown at this time, ignoring all scoldings, even assaults, the most important thing at that time is to save people.
Many cases of assault on medical staff have occurred, society has condemned them, the community is upset, doctors and nurses are worried and insecure, but so far there have been no effective preventive measures.
Regarding the assault on medical staff in Phu Tho, Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu - Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital expressed his opinion on his personal page:
"I do not criticize the patient's family. As a parent of a child, everyone must lose their composure in such moments of life and death. It is a pity that there is a professional protection system, early isolation of relatives from the emergency area and strong enough laws to curb the hot heads...".
Thus, there are two things to do, one is to protect professional hospital systems, the other is to regulate the law to handle those who assault medical staff.
The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management - Ministry of Health has just sent an official dispatch to the Director of the Department of Health of Phu Tho province on strengthening the assurance of security and order in medical examination and treatment facilities.
Requirement is one thing, but whether the medical facility can do it or not is another matter. To have a professional protection system, there needs to be funding, and there cannot be general direction.
Another issue is that it is necessary to consider separate regulations to combat medical abuse. Doctor Nguyen Lan Hieu said: "The Vietnamese health sector deserves a protective law, so that we can work with peace of mind."
