On September 17, Deputy Head of the Government Office Nguyen Sy Hiep signed and issued Document No. 8796/VPCP-CN to the Minister of Construction on the plan to exploit Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Tan Son Nhat Airport) and Long Thanh Airport.
According to the document, Lao Dong Newspaper on September 11 published an article on a reasonable exploitation plan between Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport.
In the article, Mr. Uong Viet Dung - Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that there should be a clear and synchronous transition scenario for infrastructure, services, and trade; at the same time, ensuring parallel coordination with Tan Son Nhat, avoiding disruption in aviation operations.
I strongly agree with Mr. Uong Viet Dung's point of view, Long Thanh airport exploitation is not imposed according to will, but based on a fundamental foundation to serve passengers, in which traffic infrastructure is given top priority.
In fact, in the immediate future, the routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport are not yet smooth, ensuring smooth traffic, so it is necessary to consider the most suitable exploitation plan.
There were opinions suggesting that all international flights from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh be postponed, but the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that this plan had not been finalized.
Many other experts also agree that it is not appropriate to move all international flights from Tan Son Nhat to Long Thanh.
Because if international visitors come to Long Thanh airport, switch to domestic flights to Tan Son Nhat airport, it will not be guaranteed time due to complicated traffic.
Therefore, if all international flights are transferred to Long Thanh airport under current conditions, it will reduce risks for passengers.
According to Architect Ngo Viet Nam Son, Long Thanh airport exploitation requires a three-step roadmap.
In the first phase, when the infrastructure connecting the region and metro lines is not yet complete, it is necessary to only share some of the pressure with Tan Son Nhat, while focusing on developing freight transport.
In phase two, after completing the airport transportation and urban system, it is possible to transfer more international routes.
In the final step, when the expressway and metro network is completed, it will become the leading airport in Southeast Asia.
The proposal of Architect Ngo Viet Nam Son as well as other experts is to exploit based on traffic infrastructure conditions.
Gradually exploiting, but it is necessary to promote the construction and rapid completion of projects to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway, Cat Lai bridge and other traffic routes, especially investing in the construction of metro from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh.
Long Thanh airport can only maximize efficiency when transportation is convenient.
