Production recovery - the key to stability after floods

Lê Thanh Phong |

The South Central and Central Highlands provinces suffered a heavy natural disaster, causing huge damage. In particular, farmers, livestock, and crops were almost destroyed by the fierce flood, leaving them completely empty-handed.

One of the main food sources in daily meals is green vegetables, but the source is seriously cut off, large and small markets all lack supply. It is easy to understand, all the gardens are left with mud, some places are flooded up to a meter, where to get vegetables and fruits. If there are still a few vegetable gardens, it will be difficult to transport, because many roads are eroded, making it difficult for vehicles to move, not to mention that some places are completely cut off.

If vegetables cannot survive, livestock and poultry will have difficulty clinging to floods, and meat will be temporarily cut off from supply.

The lack of food sources will of course increase prices, but there cannot be any taking advantage of the shortage to push up prices. While people are facing difficulties and many families have lost all their assets, "drowning fat water" is a crime. Price control is currently the responsibility of local management agencies.

However, we believe that the majority of people are very good, when people are in trouble, everyone is willing to help, the bad are just a minority.

To prevent price fever and market chaos, it is not the will of the manager and administrative orders or calling for the kindness of traders, but through appropriate and effective solutions. That is, supporting people to quickly recover production. At this time, it is really necessary to have the management and operational capacity of local leaders.

Quickly overcome the consequences, restore production immediately.

Floods not only destroyed livestock and crops, but also damaged household items. To return to normal life and activities, people need household appliances, electrical equipment, construction materials to repair houses, stores, and production facilities. These goods are scarce, and some are being pushed higher than before the flood.

To prevent price chaos, the industrial and commercial sectors of flooded localities need to connect with provinces and cities with abundant supply, creating conditions for goods to arrive as quickly as possible, promptly serving the consumption needs of people and businesses.

I would like to recall the words of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh: "The people need us most in difficult times, to put themselves in the position of the people to carry out the work".

Food support is to help people overcome temporary difficulties, while restoring production is to stabilize long-term, sustainable life.

No matter how severe the natural disaster is, people must continue to live and continue to get there.
