The People's Committee of Lao Cai province has just issued a document directing the organization of 2 teaching sessions/day for general education from the 2025-2026 school year.
Lao Cai lacks teachers, especially in arts and sports, so it is necessary to be flexible and use resources outside of school.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training (DET) to coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to build a mechanism to mobilize artisans, artists and athletes to participate in educational activities in schools, especially in culture, arts and sports.
Students should study 2 sessions/day, should not stuff knowledge with textbooks, should not force students to stick their head into the computer, but expand the practice of talents.
There have been many cases of students drowning because they did not know how to swim. If you study a lot, study well but you drown when going into the water, if you encounter a dangerous incident on the road and cannot handle it due to lack of life skills, then a high degree is useless.
Comprehensive education is in addition to the curriculum, students are able to learn physical training subjects and develop talents. Not to mention, through those expansion programs, it is possible to discover talents who will later become athletes, singers, and painters.
Life is colorful, the profession is also bustling, some are scientists, some are managers, businessmen, but there are also people working in the fields of arts and sports.
In fact, there are many successful people, becoming music stars, football stars, and athletes with high achievements in the international arena. Many of them have matured from amateur training "hampers".
I would like to reiterate General Secretary To Lam's words at the Politburo and Secretariat meeting on March 3:
"The day before working with the Ministry of Education and Training, I said I would study two sessions. In the afternoon, children can take extra classes. Comrades say that we now need hundreds of thousands of more teachers. This is not mechanical. Teaching music requires singers, artists who are good at teaching their grandchildren, ( Signing) contracts. The same goes for physical education and sports, inviting athletes. Or invite a painter to guide the children to learn to paint".
General Secretary To Lam's direction was agreed by public opinion, parents and artists spoke out to support and hoped that the education sector of localities would implement it.
Lao Cai is one of the leading localities, not only solving the shortage of teachers, but also creating conditions for students to access artisans, artists, and athletes, so that they have opportunities and conditions to develop their talents and practice life skills.
