The war has receded, but the losses are still present in today's life. There are mothers who have spent their whole lives waiting for news of their children. There are wives, siblings, and children who only hope to one day know where their loved ones have fallen.
The emphasis of Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung at the ceremony is as meaningful as an order from the heart: "The work of searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains is an important political task, reflecting the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source" and is the responsibility and affection of today's generation".
The two words "responsibility" placed next to the two words "affection" show that this is a task that must be carried out persistently, persistently, scientifically, carefully and with all respect for the sacrifices of the Heroic Martyrs.
The search and repatriation of martyrs' remains is always a difficult task because it is too long, the terrain has changed, the city has developed, documents are lost, and witnesses are decreasing day by day. In this work, a small trace can also open up a big journey. A piece of artifact, a layer of different colored soil, an old coordinate, a seemingly disjointed story can all become clues to find a person's identity. Therefore, the requirement of caution, protecting the scene intact, applying DNA testing technology, and systematically synthesizing and analyzing data are mandatory conditions.
The deployment of searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park is part of the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains" launched from March 2026 to July 27, 2027, towards the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day.
Searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains is also how today's generations dialogue with history. Each found martyr is a reduced expectation, each identified identity is a part of history called by the right name.
That work also reminds the living generation of the value of peace. From Le Thi Rieng Park, many hopes are ignited for a search journey. That journey continues to require the involvement of functional agencies, military forces, local authorities, scientists, historical witnesses, veterans at home and abroad, overseas Vietnamese and the community.
Today's generation needs both responsibility and affection in finding, calling their names and bringing them back. That is the most practical way to say thank you. It is also a way for the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source" not only to be in a reminder, but to become a specific, persistent and humane action.
